2010 EVENTS
Marin County Fair
July 1-5, 2010
Civic Center Drive, San Rafael, CA (exhibit is in the Marin Veteran's Memorial Auditorium)
This is my eighth time in the art show at the fair. I am always honored to participate, the competition is fierce! Three of my pieces were chosen: Blue Plate Special, Reading to Her, and Bicycles, a giclee print. "Blue Plate Special" (shown at right) is a 6" x 8" oil on panel. "Reading to Her" is a 12" x 9" oil on panel. "Bicycles" is a 9x12 giclee print of a prize-winning original piece done at the Mill Valley Paint Off (scroll down to see the original).
Youth in Arts Italian Street Painting Festival
June 12 & 13, 2010
Downtown San Rafael, CA
I worked with fellow painter Carol Hetherington to reproduce a Georgia O'Keeffe painting, "Oriental Poppies" in soft pastels on the pavement in the 17th annual Youth in Arts Italian Street Painting Festival. Go to the Youth in Arts website for information about the event. The website features a photo that includes our 2009 painting of "Girl with a Pearl Earring!" I did a trial pastel painting (shown at right below street view) using the layout I prepared on the computer with the original O'Keeffe art. It was a very hot weekend, especially sitting and kneeling on the black pavement, but we surmounted the discomfort to produce a bright and colorful rendition (photo at right). Go to Larry's Flickr set to see photos of the entire event.

"Bodie Light" is a 26" x 34" oil on canvas, and depicts Bodie Light, a famous and historic lighthouse in the Outer Banks in North Carolina. The painting won a Special Award at the fair! "Rowboat" is an 11" x 14" oil on panel. The location is Stuart Island in British Columbia, a couple hours north of Vancouver. I visited both places last year.
